Move. FAR AWAY. Limit contact, and don't be afraid to hurt your MIL's feelings. (Especially if is for defense of your family.) Also let your husband know what you do/did before she tells her story. Always be honest with your husband, and absolutely the most loving wife you can be.

Example: "Honey, I spoke with your mother today. It didn't go well. I lost my temper, but I don't feel bad about it. She said some horrible things that I won't repeat, and that is when I flew off the handle. If she says anything to you I want you to know what really happened. I love you, and I want us to be happy together. I just have a hard time dealing with your mother. I'm so glad we live far away, I wouldn't want to see what it would be like if we lived close by." Hug, kiss, love....etc.

Yes I did...yay me!! Besides divorcing her son 4 years ago (lol), I simply didn't feed into her game while I was married. I set boundaries with my tone (calm, firm) andlet her know what I would and wouldn't accept from her. Whenever she started her schpeel, I would cut her off at the pass, let her know I was fully aware of what she was trying to do and that it wouldn't work with me. I then walked away, not responding to anything further she had to say....no matter how nasty that was. Don't feed the beast is the key. Tell her in no uncertain terms what's on your mind and stick to it. It won't be very long before you notice she stops the games. Manipulative people crave attention, and when they don't get it they move on towards a more willing victim. You weren't put on this earth to cave into another adults emotional tactics...kep that in mind.

I give mine the silent treatment! She can't stand it. She will be talking to me and I walk off, or away. It is hilarious. My friend told me to make a pretend phone call and let her overhear me say that I was pregnant by someone else. I think I will do that...it'll teach her to stay out of my biz

i told mine where she could put all of her bulls**t. then i stopped going to her house for any reason (especially holidays). just to keep her on her toes and let her know i'm in control, my husband and i make up stories that we know will get back to her and make her nuts. (like being pregnant, cheating, etc....) she doesn't even try to make me mad anymore! i even got a birthday present from her that wasn't an insult! good luck

Threaten to put her in an old folks home one day if she don't stop her nonsense. That should get her attention or at least make her think about things.

If someone is that poisonous to be around, don't be around her! Hopefully your husband is MAN enough or wife WOMAN enough to back his/her mother down.
