The difference between a college and a university is that a college just offers a collection of degrees in one specific area, while a university is a collection of colleges. When you go to a university you are going to be graduating from one of their colleges, such as the business college. As to which is better, it depends on what you want. Single colleges tend to be smaller while universities are bigger, but universities are better known.

In the US, people use the term "college" to refer to both, but there is actually a difference.

A college is an institution that has a "college of arts and sciences," in which there are departments of study like English, Philosophy, Political Science, History, Biology, Chemistry, etc.

A university is a larger institution which is made up of several colleges, including the college of arts and sciences, but also including (for example) a college of business, a college of education, a college of fine arts, a college of engineering, etc.

In addition, while some (but not all) colleges have graduate programs in a certain few fields, universities usually have graduate programs in many fields, and may (but not necessarily) have a medical school and/or a law school.

In the USA, there's no difference. But apparently this has recently become a big issue outside the US, because every college that can change its name to 'university' has been doing so over the past several years, even though nothing has changed within those institutions.

Usually, stand-alone colleges are focused on a narrow group of subjects, like a liberal arts college.

well, a university includes all graduate schools and undergrad programs...
college just consists of undergraduate school.
some schools are called university, and they have a school inside for undergrads called "School name College"
its not that different.
its just easier if u want to go to graduate...theres programs directly there at that school you go to.
hope this helps.
