Land lord is not able to legally enter the residence without your permission, BUT must be given a key, at least this is how it works in my locality. You need to check with your local renters association.
In the case that someone defaults on rent for 31 days, or appears to be deceased ot missing. they need to have a way to get in. If you own it, then you don't have to grant anyone access.

Yes. Landlords have a key for repair, emergency situations, in case you get locked out.
I know that my landlord gives me 24 hour notice when someone is going to be on the premises doing work or looking at something. He prefers for me to be there in person; however, if I"m not there in person he has a key in order to have the workers do the work. He's on the premises when the work is being done as well.
Most likely those are the reasons your landlod wants a key. I have no problem with my landlord having a key since there was a time when I forgot my key and I was able to be let in.
In the years I have been renting I have never had a problem with my landlord entering without notice. Good Luck.

No you are not allowed to change the locks. If so, you must give them a key. But they get in huge trouble if they ever enter without giving you written notice in advance.

I think so. I don't know what state you are in, but here in Texas legally a landlord does not have the right to go into anything they are renting without the tenant being on the premises. My landlord gives their tenants all of the keys they have, and then asks for permission to enter the premise unless they have been called to fix something. And then they still ask permission to enter.

You are not allowed to change the locks without the landlord's permission. It is his property not yours. I doubt very seriously that he will let you do this and not give him a key.

You don't own the property. You are entitled to upgrade the locks, but the landlord has to have a key for emergency access. He is, of course, not entitled to random access to the property.

yes you do. state law gives the landlord legal right to access the house upon proper notice to you or in case of emergency. you might change them anyway and take your chances, but the landlord can have a locksmith come out and drill the locks if he needs to get in and have you pay the bill

yes
but if an emergency happens........
eg. fire
your door will be smashed in by the fire department
if you lose a key.............the landlord will not have a copy..to give or make you one..
you will have to call a lock smith at your expense to get in.
if the police have to enter your unit..they will destroy the door at your expense..
(eg. 9111 call of emergency nature, medical, burglary etc)
