Biggest surprises so far this season:
East: Orlando Magic
West: Utah Jazz

Biggest disappointments so far this season:
East: New Jersey Nets
West: Los Angeles Clippers

Phoenix and Dallas look like the class of the league right now, but don't completely count out San Antonio, Miami, or Detroit, come playoff time.

Houston, Utah, Cleveland, Chicago, and the Lakers are also contenders, but will probably need to make a significant trade before the deadline in order to advance deep into the playoffs.

Mid-season MVP - It's a tough call for me between Nash, and Dirk in Big D. I'll give the slight nod to Nash, but their both deserving. Other legit candidates include: Kobe, LeBron, and Gilbert Arenas.

What are your thoughts??

Biggest surprises:
East: I agree with you on the Magic. They're doing better than I expected because I didn't think they'd make the playoffs.
West: The Utah Jazz at the beginning of the season was a bit of a surprise, but the Lakers are my suprise team. I mean they lost Lamar and Kwame who are two vital big men. And yet they still find ways to win and right now have a good record.

Biggest Disappointments:
East: I think it's a tie between the Heat and Nets. The Heat have lost Shaq and Wade hasn't really been elevating his game to help the Heat. And the Nets just can't win, but I'd give them some slack since they missed a big piece in Nenad Kristic. But I would expect them to do better, I mean they have possibly the greatest duo with Kidd, Carter, and Jefferson.
West: Yeah, I'd say the Clippers, one of the best teams last season, and now they aren't even in the playoff picture right now.

The best team in the league has to be the Mavericks. They are just playing outstanding and having a great season. But you're right that you shouldn't count out the Spurs, Heat, or the Pistons. They still have those veterans that can step it up in the playoffs.

As you mentioned, all of those teams including Houston, Utah, Cleveland, Chicago, and the Lakers are going to need some additions or trades to advance further to the finals. However, I think Houston's alright once Yao comes back,....except they could use a better PF than Hayes.

MVP: It is tough to decide between Nash or Dirk. They are both really great players and both good reason why they are doing so well. But I'd like to take Dirk just because he's having a great season and the Mavericks are the best team in the nba as of right now. They wouldn't be anywhere without Dirk.

Nice talking some mid-season stuff!

I do not agree. I think that some if it is true what you said but others will not happen. For an example if the Utah Jazz get it together then they will do a lot better. They are doing great so far and here in Utah we are very proud of them. I do not expect a trade from them they might get another player since they just let Roger Power III go but they might also get him back. The Jazz did not have it together when they played some of those players. Watch them go in the second half of the season. After all they have beat some of those teams like San Antonio, Phoenix twice, Detroit has lost the last 4 games the jazz have played them, they have also beaten the lakers and some of the other teams. I think that Carols Boozer is going to be an All star and some of the other players on the jazz team. We will just wait and see and hopefully the best the comes out of it. I just wish the Utah Jazz a good season and make it the playoffs and a lot further this year.

Biggest Suprises
East- Wizards- Arenas and Butler have this team in first place. Just Amazing.
West- Lakers- Kobe and co are doing awesome. Odom comes back soon and this team looks like it could make a playoff run come May

Biggest Dissapointments
East- Miami- The Champs have fallen hard with the loss of their big man. Wade is getting no support from the rest of the team.
West- Sacramento- Artest and co have really let it slip. That 8th playoff spot is looking pretty far away.

I think a surprise team would be the Warriors. They have a decent record, hanging in there. And with that huge trade getting big players like Harrington and Jackson, alongside with J-Rich and Baron Davis, they should be dominant and a playoff-contender. Anyone who saw that Warriors vs. Cavs game a couple minutes ago would know what I mean. The new Warriors look pretty good.

Biggest surprise:
East: Orlando
West: LA Lakers - How is Kobe doing it?

Disappointment:
East: Philly - All the big name moves
West: Sacramento (Clippers are a close 2nd)

I completely agree with all your other statements. Although there are a lot of strong MVP candidates, you gotta give it to Nash. His numbers are better than his previous 2 years. You just got to watch him play to know he deserves it. He makes everyone better, if others aren't hitting there shots he can take over the game himself and score, and he is dinamite in the 4th quarter.
