if you are talking about PCI express, PCI express x16 is twice as fast as AGP.

AGP 8X2,100 MB/s
PCI Express 1x250 [500]* MB/s
PCI Express 2x500 [1000]* MB/s
PCI Express 4x1000 [2000]* MB/s
PCI Express 8x2000 [4000]* MB/s
PCI Express 16x4000 [8000]* MB/s
PCI Express 32x8000 [16000]* MB/s

AGP is dying quickly so if you buy a motherboard with AGP graphics and no PCI Express, you may have a hard time upgrading your graphics card in the future.

Regular pci graphics card is poor choice for graphics. AGP is better, but is currently being phased out in favor of PCI Express x16 graphics cards.

PCI Express is the current best over AGP, but you need a motherboard with a PCI-E slot(s) to utilize it. I don't think anyone even manufactures new standard PCI graphics cards anymore, but make sure what your motherboard can accomodate before you purchase a PCI-E card; otherwise you may get stuck with a b.s. restocking fee to return a card your PC can't utilize.
