There is a difference between memory and hard disc space when it comes to a computer. The memory is much smaller, most computers now have about 512 MB or 1G of memory, which stores information when your computer is on. Your hard drive will be around 60 or 80 G, which is where your programs and files and pictures and music and whatever else you save on it. I assume you are talking about adding more hard drive space. Because of the way things are saved magnetically on the disc, there are spaces between the spots that are saved and fitting other files in between them is not possible, so you lose that hard drive space.

(using the 0 for open space and 1 for used space it will look like this)
1111001101111000111110111000001111000100011111

Go to your control panel and run the disc defragmenter, which will pick up these files and move them together so the space you lost in between the files is now useable space and will look like this:

1111111111111111111111111111111000000000000000

Running the C: defragmenter will help your computer run faster.

You can also delete temporary files that the internet puts on your computer. Go into your options on your web browser and you will find a place to delete these files. If you are using Mozilla, just press Crtl+Shift+Delete.

no, the first thing you should do is to verify whether your system needs to be defragmented, and also to do a surface scan of your hard drive. once these steps are taken, if your computer seems to be running slow, yes, you may choose to remove and then install the programs [software] that you are having problems with.

after installing memory it's not necessary to reinstall any programs. that wouldn't really help. however formatting the hard drive and reinstalling windows might help.
