find a copy of the most recent "Writer's Market." A big fat book full of all kinds of publishing companies. This will help you figure out where you want to send it. (You might also want to find a book that gives more explicit instructions on how to submit something for publication, unless you have an author friend who will walk you through it.) Then, you either get an agent, (for the big companies that won't take unsolicited works by authors who haven't been previously published) or you start sending your manuscript to the companies yourself.

I recommend a book called the Writer's Market (linked below) as a good place to start in searching for agents. Most major publishers will not accept submissions without an agent to act as a liaison between author and publishing house. Find agents who represent writers who write material similar to your own, and send them cover letter, synopsis and a chapter or two. Be prepared to get a few rejection letters--JK Rowling (author of one of the most successful series of all time) got many before getting a deal. Best of luck to you and I hope to see it in bookstores! :)

Do a web search for publishers. One of them might be interested. Make sure you do proof reading and re-writing. Get the opinions of friends and family. Show it to former teachers. Make sure it is ready and interesting to others.
