I go out of my way to be nice to people and no one I know is like that

yah ...it is hard to find now a days. im like you....i go out of my way to be kind or be nice to anybody......and it is sooooooo hard to find it in return.....its sad but true....at least there are a few people like you left........keep it up!......thats all i could say because you will find alot of people apprecheate it......

That is a very good question, and you have a star from me. I also am very nice and polite to people--and that is rarely reciprocated. Even some civil servants, customer service people, restaurant workers, retail workers, etc. seem to go out of their way to be rude. That makes a business look bad.
People bump into you in grocery stores, and don't even say, "Excuse me." You pick up something that someone dropped, and they don't even say, "Thank you." Hardly anyone says, "Please," when asking a favor. What's with that???
How difficult is it to have manners? Apparently many people think that it is a huge chore--or a punishment. Isn't anyone raised right any more?

Egotism, nowadays we have the tendency to be more materialistic and less spiritual, the world has become too noisy and too fast that unless you find time to know yourself, and find peace in your spirit, you will inevitably join the rush and then the disrespect and lack of courtesy and good manners.

maybe you shouldn't be going out of your way.
Just be decent and respectful to people. You don't have to necessarily go out of your way.
