I don't get the room temperature connection.
If I remember right, Fe is atomic number 26
So we can fill orbitals:
1s2 Left to fill 24
2s2 2p6 Left to fill 16
3s2 3p6 Left to fill 8
4s2 Left to fill 6
We reach the first group of transition metals where the next electrons fill an inner shell
3d6 Left to fill =0
