The Valley of the Kings is not *in* the Sudan, it's on the western bank of the Nile across from the modern city of Luxor, Egypt.

If the Valley of the Kings had been located in what is now the modern Sudan, than that modern nation would probably lay claim to the mask of Tutankhamun. As it is, policy, even before Egyptian independence, was that royal mummies and their associated tomb goods were to remain in Egypt.
