“Geez, Louise” to express shock or amazement

Like saying, "Oh, my God!" or "Jesus Christ!", in an expression of amazement, shock or disbelief.

Equivalent to saying "Jesus Christ" as a "slur" of sorts, but less severe, and used so as not to get stricken down for blasphemy.

The words rhymes to imply a sense a humor and I think it probably started as a line in some comedy or movie. I remember Dean Martin saying it, I think.

It's a combination of "cussing" which is using made up words instead of profanity, and "scat" talk like "Whattta you know Joe?" and "Later Alligator" and "After-while Crocodile", and the ever popular "Later Tater"
So Jeeze Louize! get a life!

I'll have a go at it.

jeez louise is like saying, oh my god John, why? jeez is exaspirated, louise is a name, so you're exaspirated with someone. and it rhymes, which is why the phrase stuck with society.

I don't know the origin, but.....I would explain it as a "oh my gosh that sucks" or "oh wow!"
