Tatooine got it's name from an actual place in Tunisia called Tataouine, where many scenes on the desert planet where filmed. The moons were later given the names Tatoo I and II in material expanding the Star Wars mythos. I have no idea why the citizens there don't have strange shadows or even dark skin, but I guess you can get away with matters like that in sci-fi.
As far as I know, where Obi-Wan got the name "Ben" has yet to be told. (Other than it uses letters from his actual name). Luke has never heard of of an Obi-Wan, but knows an Old Ben, and addresses him such when he's rescued from the Tusken Raiders.

well, the planet Tattooine, where the young Luke Skywalker lives has 2 suns, simple as that. Obi-Wan is referred to as Ben for the first time when Luke is speaking to his uncle Owen about the part of the message he found in R2-D2's system. Luke states that the message was for an "Obi-Wan", and he thought they might have meant Ben Kenobi.

He was called 'Ben Kenobi' after he went into exile. As Anakin became Darth, so Obi-wan became Ben.

What I never liked about the scenes from Tatooine was that there were two suns but everybody only had one shadow. Come on, what's with that?
