opinions vary. but race has for centuries been a major problem between people. humans are unopen to difference. it scares us. so when they meet someone of a different skin/race.. they tend to upgrade/degrade themselves. and those with power make sure it stays that way. e.g. the enslavement of many african-americans in the 1800s. or hitler and the proscecution (sp?) or jews in the 1940s.

It is a fault of human nature. Every race has resentment toward others over past injustices, they can't be laid to rest.
