Breach of Contract ..Restaurant was at fault for not fullfilling their promise of providing "safe and edible " food in return for payment of monies .
They were in violation of a mutual written and oral agreement of goods and services provided in return for monies. It is not an implied agreement .

They need to reimburse their patrons for their medical bills, work lost, that type of thing, at least. Restaurants know when they are breaking rules and don't care or they wouldn't do it. When they get caught, they need to pay!
Here a local TV channel goes around with the Health Department and they let us know what ratings restaurants get. Some of the owners are upset because they lose business. . .and they so deserve to. My favorite restaurant was caught re-serving chips and pico de gallo. Yuk after others had eaten out of it. The reporter told one of the owners they are doing these reports so that people can make informed decisions about where to eat. I will NEVER eat in that restaurant again. One well known restaurant didn't have a working refrigerator and I wonder why I had so many upset stomachs after eating there. It is unbelievable how bad some of these restaurants are. They deserve what they have to pay.

I'm currently doing a case like this involving E-Coli. Do not take this for legal advice as I'm not your attorney. I recommend you contact an attorney. As soon as possible. It would have been best to have the food tested, but it is to late. Since multiple people were sickened their is a huge chance you can win compensation. Speak to an attorney about medical, pain and suffering, loss of employment, emotional, and any kind of compensation you deem necessary.
