You can start by looking inside you !
This is because the universe is beyond our limits as it is without end, since god is every thing in this universe, it is not possible to see him/her as we would have to stand out side him/her to see him with these human eyes.
Thus it is only logical to go to the center of conciseness to become one with him/her so that we can see his/her self.
As for heaven all the good things we have done give us joy I feel that if it is true and i experience it totally the that is heaven for me don't you agree!!!

I agree with the meditation advice.
The type of meditation you might consider trying is the Buddhist method. This involves trying to empty the mind of all thoughts. Once the clutter is gone, you can access whatever you're looking for.
Here's a pretty good how-to on getting started.

Remember that this is only one way to meditate. There are many others. A good overview and other links can be found here:

Oh yeah, don't try to find it through drugs. That's artificial and short-lived. You want an experience that will last as long as you want it to. Stay in the driver's seat. You owe it to yourself.

PS: Buddhism and some of the other meditation regimens are NOT non-religious. People of any religion can practice Buddhism without compromising their beliefs.

Holding a sleeping child. Cuddling with your loved ones. The new leaves on a tree in the spring. Thunderstorms, rainbows, waterfalls. A purring kitten. Holding hands with an old friend. First snow fall of the season. A quiet, peaceful pond. A walk in the forrest. Laughter.
The higher power that I believe in is everywhere. And is in everything. Nature is god. God is running through the veins of every living creature and thing on earth. God isn't in a man-written book. God isn't sitting in the sky somewhere, waiting for you to come to him through death. God (and I believe in a female goddess, a mother figure) is interacting with you on a daily basis. I know that my "god" is there when I see crows. Crows are my totem animal and just seeing them or hearing them gives me comfort.
Life becomes a little easier when you know that god is nearer than you always thought he was.

It resides with you. It always has. The con happens to be, they're making you look externally for it - this is why most people will never see it. Once you begin that internal journey, you'd be amazed as to what you come across. Get that Pineal Gland vibrating and raise Lazarus from his grave.

By helping a child, in your lover's eyes, feeding the poor, embracing a newborn, sunrise of a crisp, clear winter morning, when you need help.
He is everywhere. Sometimes He shows off. Sometimes He is just there. When you look, you will see. It's up to you. He's always there.
