Membrane Theory is a fairly new idea as far as theory goes, as far as new data goes the mass of the W boson just got pinned down a few weeks ago with the best accuracy yet, allowing a better calculation on the size of the Higgs boson and where we might find it, so the race is on for that, thats kind of one of the big deals in physics right now, finding the Higgs...that and the CERN particle physics lab is getting the new Large Hadron Collder (LHC) going this year, which is the most powerful collider built to date, which will allow for more accurate measurements on the particles we already know of and most likely discover a bunch of new ones. Thats all i can think off of the top of my head right now...
