The contradictions were between the structure of the Federal Government and the ideals of the Declaration of Independence. The status of slaves, women and natives was not as Jefferson wrote. On the other hand the Constitution was established as a compromise between many factions. Issues like slavery were put off for another generation to resolve. Without the compromise, there would have been no government. Because the founders were interested in their personal liberty, the document allowed later generations to interpret it to allow these rights to minorities. The Taney court could have the Dred Scott case, the Warren court could have the Brown case.
