Zeppelin was probably more influential to many bands and widely recognized as the better band by most I absolutely adore their music and think that their heavy guitar riffs and different cultural influences (indian, celtic) were far beyond their time. Jimmy Page is one of the best guitar players of the time and I think that his Coverdale Page project was far underrated. But, I think I would still pick Pink Floyd. Every one of their albums was different and innovative. The Wall was monumental in rock history and drug fueled genius. Their lyrics are more introspective and less commercial, The guitar playing is orgasmic I love the way the solos sing better than any voice. Probably some of the most underrated and beautiful songs are the less popular Pink Floyd songs. (Lasting longer is not an issue, Zeppelin broke up for good reasons.) But, Floyd has continually put out amazing progressive albums over the decades and gone through so many changes in the band, still putting out some of the best albums I have heard. David Gilmour and Roger Waters have also put out amazing solo albums. I have so much respect for both bands they are in my top ten for sure.

Two of my favorite bands, and I thought it would be a hard choice, but it really isn't. I have almost everything Pink Floyd has ever recorded, but I only have about half of the Zeppelin stuff.
What it really comes down to for me is the dreamy quality of so much of Pink Floyd's music. Don't get me wrong, Led Zeppelin has its share of dreamy music, too, but Zeppelin is more of a psychedelic dream, while Pink Floyd is morphine. No, I don't mean it puts me to sleep, I just mean it's high quality dreamy, like sinking into a big deep intellectual bed. Zeppelin doesn't have that quality, at least not to me.
Also, Pink Floyd gets my vote for best guitar part ever in a rock song (Comfortably Numb). The runner up? Oddly enough, it's Led Zeppelin's Black Dog--check out the casual, sloppy, slurred sound from Jimmy Page. Incredible.
But yeah, I am going with Pink Floyd.

Wow never thought of comparing the 2...but I pick Pink Floyd. Both bands have great songs but when you look at longevity, I think Pink Floyd wins. Yes they have had changes in band members, but they are still touring! The Wall was just one of the most amazing and most creative movies/albums/projects ever! That live version in Germany where the real Berlin Wall used to be is just a testament to their greatness! Zep is also great - Stairway to Heaven is one of the greatest songs ever, but a lot of their other songs seem similar to me. Pink Floyd was always changing and doing different stuff! So I pick Pink Floyd!

None of those boring bands...Led Zeppelin at least didn't bore people to death like the overated Pink Floyd...they made millions of dollars off of chumps over the years much like Pink Floyd did but at least turned the guitar up loud!!

well Zep had the decency to quit before they became a complete joke. If Floyd had stopped when Waters left they'd still have some honour. I think Zep have a higher percentage of good albums than floys although the first two Floyd albums are reall good. and both bands liked Roy Harper, so at least they all have great taste.

pink floyd. zeppelin's tunes are all blues based. they're still great songs and i love the blues, but pink floyd really went beyond that and experimented with sounds and themes in their music. david gilmour is not a flashy guitarist who whips out solos from nowhere, but rather creates beautiful melody and every note he plays just feels like it belongs there. roger water's lyrics are gold. mason has great feel on the drums even though he doesnt play super fast or anything. Echoes is a masterpiece.

I would have to say Pnk Floyd all the way. They are so talented and different. They don't have to steal other band's material like the bands of today. They are still performing and still do a great job, so whoever said whoever can throw their walker the farthest needs to check themselves before commenting.
