Even though you aren't a writer, you will still need to give the information to someone else. You should go ahead and outline your life story so you can peddle it to a publisher. Once you get a contract, write your story. Your editor will work with you to add cohesion and make any corrections to what you have written.

You don't need to be clever to write, you have typed out your question on your own?
Have more confidence in yourself, just a suggestion but why not get yourself a large note pad and start jotting down notes, starting with when and where you were born, and your family circumstances at the time, that's not going to be difficult is it? You are then on the way, you can then sit typing it up on your computer, a very slow and tedious job if you type as I do, I just keep 'plonking away at the key board, keep using your hand written notes for reference ! From that stage on you go to your next phase all interesting things that have happened in your life, good bad and ugly. Split that into chapters for example "My childhood" "School time" and so on to the present date. Keep re reading each chapter and try to get a few friends interested enough to read it a chapter at a time ask for opinions.
It's a great exercise and if the idea is to leave it as a sort of legacy for family and friends even better.
Just a word of warning if you have thoughts on est seller material, or film rights, forget them now, no chance , and don't be sending any one any money at all.
Good luck with your project, feel free to contact me if you like, but don't expect me to write it for you !! Just settle down and get started, it doesn't really matter how long it takes does it?

If there is a college nearby check and see if there are any writing classes available. Talk to an advisor at the college and tell them what it is you want to do and they can help make sure you take a class or classes that will help you. Telling your own story in your own words would be the best way to go. If that just isn't going to work for you then you might be able to find someone at the college that is a writing major that would love to help you for a class project.

I've thought about writing a book about my life, too. Maybe it'll happen someday. I know it might sound crazy, but you might try seeking out college students who are english, writing, or creative writing majors. I just graduated with my AA in art and i wish that someone would ask me for help with art stuff for pay. Most college kids would love a big break and for an opportunity to be paid for their work. You might try advertising on fliers on campus or contacting the english and writing department chairs of universities near you, then when/if students contact you, you could set up an interview, ask for samples of their writing and ask for resumes and everything. It's good practice for students and an way for you to find someone that you'll be happy working with for an extended period of time.

Well, as you asked me to respond, I am. Personally, I think you would do best to write the book yourself. Only you know the extent and minutiae of your life; anyone else can only convey an impression. It is hard work, sure, but if you were to write it yourself, it would be exactly as you want it to be, and afterwards ou would feel proud 'in extremis'

You can do it.

p.s. there are plenty of writing seminars around or books -try amazon, you should be able to find something good there. :)

You can hire a ghost writer, but they are expensive. Try contacting a professional writing coach for help or ideas: maybe you CAN write the book yourself. Here is an excellent one www.writehigh.com

Ghostwriters can be VERY expensive, so be careful of them.

The best thing, in my opinion, would be to write it yourself in a journal format (brief chapters/sections), the work could lend itself a more intimate mood and draw the reader in.

I would be more than happy to help you with your project. Feel free to contact me via e-mail if you are interested.

Best of luck!
