Becoming a football player isn't as hard as other parts of the world. But if you want to be good I would suggest signing for a team at school (assuming you're still young) and also get a personal coach to train you just about everyday, I would recommend you get a coach from Brazil or Argentina that can teach you their way of handling the ball. And just like the kids of those countries you need to live soccer, so every moment you're not doing homework, eating or sleeping, you need to be in your back your kicking the ball around or playing a soccer match with others. Only then would you have a chance.

It is very tough to become a pro soccer player in America. All MLS teams (excluding the L.A. Galaxy this year) will ask for a "resume" of your experience. This experience would include special camps, High School teams, College teams, and other accolades (awards, national notoriety, etc.) that you have accumulated from your time playing. However, if your resume is accepted, that is your ticket in for their very selective "invite only" tryouts. So you can still NOT make the team. Of course this process only takes place if you're not drafted by an MLS team out of college. The Galaxy have made the possibility of becoming a professional player a lot easier than the other MLS teams. If you want to pay the $130. Otherwise, your best bet would be to play overseas, especially in Europe. Europe literally has tens of thousands of teams, maybe hundreds of thousands, where you will more than likely get noticed.
Best of luck!

How old are you?
What playing experience do you have?
Are you in college?
Are you male or female?
These are all very important questions that need to be answered to determine what you have to do to join a professional soccer team.

Basically you should play for your college, and if you are good enough you will get drafted by a team from the MLS otherwise it is really hard to play pro, in South American and Europe it is about impossible for the average joe to play you need conections in high places and must have some serious talent, it is like trying to make it to the NFL in the USA.
But seriously, if you are really good play for your college if you are in it or join a local team and ask around to find out where the scouts go to look at players. I live in georgia and in here the pro team is the Atlanta Silverbacks, any one can go and play in their minor leagues but to make it pro you must be lucky enough to be in a match where a scout will be at.

Apparently the LA Galaxy are holding a public tryout to find players to play with Beckham, must have given him all their cash and need some cheap players to fill out the roster.

Why would you ever want to play to an empty stadium? That is a girls game in the US.
