i had to get a MRI about 2 weeks ago and had to take my newly pierced cartilage out. i strung it with fishing wire just so there was something in there for a couple hours. but i have an earring in there now. but when i change it, it swells right away and i have to push it through really hard. should i wait a long time to change it again? or what should i do?

Cartilage Piercings take 8-12 weeks to heal well enough to change.(after that you need to leave something in all the time for at least a year to keep it from closing) You need to be really careful changing it more often because everytime you take it out it starts to close and pushing something else in is irritating it. At this point your best bet is to leave in what you have in, turn it 2 or 3 times a day and clean it really well every time you clean it. Do NOT use alcohol as that dries the piercing out which makes it more prone to infection. Use either saline solution or go get some ear care solution from a place that does piercings (like Claire's, The Icing, Piercing Pagoda, etc) If it keeps swelling, turns red and stays red or is extremely painful to the touch then take it out! (there is SOME pain involved but should NOT be excruciating) Cartilage piercings get infected really easily and I have seen it turn into blood poisoning in some people.

Try not to change it too often. Back in the day, I remember the piercing person telling me to keep the stud in for 3 months and to keep it clean with alcohol pads. Maybe someone else has other ideas. good luck

Wait until it is fully healed before changing it. Everytime you change the jewelry it irritates the piercing and makes it more difficult to heal. Just have some patience!

Well you shouldnt wait a while or you'll just have too repirce it. I had to take my earing out, and it hurt really bad because it started to close up. but make sure you keep it cleaned so it won't get accepted

Put in a nickel free hypoallergenic ring, or preferably a stud. Keep it clean, and don't change it for at least 4 weeks. It should stretch back out.
