Well I live in the South & sometimes I forget where I live because I used to live in NY & I thought it was a sign of racism. I always used to say we won the Civil War why won't the Southereners let it go & when I moved here I still said it until one day a very big man with that flag hanging from his car overheard me & reminded me in not such nice words that I am a Southerner, so now I still look down on it but I keep my mouth shut

The Confederate Flag represents what was once a great part of what became this nation.
It also represents a fierce pride in independence and an undying will to stand for what one feels is right.
The Flag of the Confederate States of America, nor the CSA themselves ever represented slavery, although it was a fact of life throughout the continent.
The association has been manufactured, for the most part, by revisionists.
The abolition of slavery, by the way, was not a humanitarian gesture, as the PC crowd suggests.
It was, instead, a tactical decision intended to cripple the Southern war machine.
While both efforts suffered from the loss of "free" labor, the northern forces were of sufficient number to cope successfully with the shortfalls.
As for your "Grandaddy's Flag", treat it with the same respect he would...and remember where you came from.

It's very Anti-American. You might as well take your flag and make 'Your South' your own country. If you can't fly the American flag and be proud of your country.... why are you here? The confederate flag has nothing to do with America and what America stands for.

The Confederate flag was a symbol of an American people. This flag as well as the symbols of the native Americans are part of our history and to be treated as a part of the American society.
And as a member of the Sons of The Confederacy I see this symbol being mistreated and misunderstood.

Make sure its for the right reasons. If it is to dedicate for the southern soldiers who fought in died in battle, then that would be a reasonable reason. But if you fly it to show the racism that occurred in the South then u have no right to fly it. It is all about your own personal reasons. But yeah its up to you, I am sure people of the South will be more accepting to it, because they are in fact more used to it (I live in the South and know that it can be seen anywhere) So i will leave that up to you! Hopes this helps!

Sadly this seems to represent a time in America when not everybody was treated the same . Now for some reason this is looked down on by a certain race . They seem to believe that it represents racism . When in fact they should be celebrating it for a time when their fore fathers payed their dues and help them to have everything handed to them for free . In short I used to take pride in it , but now it upset some people ... Now there is one hanging in front of my house .. God bless America .

To me it's kind of a "backwards thinking" icon, it represents pride in being ignorant, not the most mature or educated thought processes. It says, "I'm uneducated, ignroant and proud of it.."
If you want to display the flag you have as a political statement- I'd suggest not, but where it's part of your family history, go ahead, but I'd suggest making it part of a display- putting it with other family history items- pictures, pieces of clothing, etc.

It represents pride in a culture that endorsed slavery and racism.
It has been embraced by neo-nazis, the radical right wing white power extremists and others.
As a symbol, it is up there with the swastika
