My son swears by gas, but I feel safer with electric models. Gas and electric cook fine; however, when choosing a stove, I felt safer with a control panel located high at the back of the stove--more difficult to access for small children, so it is up to you and your gut feeling. Good luck.

Hi,
I've always preferred a gas stove because with gas you can control the speed and intensity of your cooking much more than you can with electric. Once you turn gas off, it's off but with electricity, it can still be very hot for a while. Example; if you boil some milk with a gas stove, you turn it off and it doesn't spill over but with an electric stove, the milk would flow over.
Also, a gas oven has similar advantages in that controlling the heat and how much intensity you choose is much easier and better than gas.
Some stoves have an electric cooktop and a gas oven, that's okay too but gas I feel is safer if you have children, you can tell when gas is on but with electric plates, you can't always tell.

If you reside in a location where winter storms, etc... tend to shut down your electrical service, you can still cook with gas. You will be able to see that the gas flame is lit whereas your electrical element will only glow when red hot even though it might be hot enough to give you a nasty burn. Gas will heat faster and cool down sooner. Gas is cheaper in all locals that I know of plus, here in California, the electric utility company is about to begin the installation of new meters which are able to save your consumption based on peak and non peak times. The rate will be higher in peak hours and unlike your laundry, you need to use your range when you are hungry. Peak hours or not.
In defense of electrical, these shortcomings are not major and an electric range would serve you well. just not as well as gas. Electrical ranges can also come with glass tops which are easier to clean given the fact that there are no openings for food to fall into under the burners.

Sometimes you don't get a choice. "Back in the day" some areas were touted as all electric and that's all they have. Personally, I prefer gas. When the power is out you can cook and heat the house. In the summer it's a toss up.

I VERY much prefer gas stoves to electric ones. The flame makes the temperature much easier to control; if you turn the flame down or off, the temperature immediately drops, but if you turn an electric burner down, it has to cool off.

I find that a Gas Range with Electric Oven works best. If you don't want to buy seperate units, then go gas!

electric, it works fine and i don't trust anything in my house that uses gas ! I see it as more as a fire hazard ! I've had both. And sometimes you have to light the eye if it doesn't work, and sometimes they don't and it can blow the fire in your face !!

If your kitchen setup allows the choice I would go with gas. It cooks more evenly and you have better temperature control.
