There are 1,024 megabytes in 1 gigabyte.

Some hard drive manufacturers cheat this and use their own definition, where there are only 1,000 megabytes in 1 gigabyte. This explains why, when you buy an 80 GB hard drive, it appears as less than 80 GB in Windows or on your Mac.

There are only 1,000 megabytes in a gigabyte.

There are 1,024 bits in a byte. That disparity has already been factored in to the term megabyte. Don't make the mistake of factoring it in again.
