A geologic change? Such as a change in the axis of the earth? For instance, the mammoths lived in a warm, grass growing latitude that sustained huge numbers of mammoths.
And suddenly the Earths axis changed so that the mammoths were suddenly located in a polar region, instantly frozen solid and never unfroze again. No more grasses, daisies such as are found in their mouths and stomachs ever grew there again. Actually, the mammoths did not exactly change, they were extinguished from existence in the space of a few minutes.
This geologic change occurred when man was on earth. There a caves in France that have drawings of men hunting mammoths with spears!!!

Also because of global warming we have the same problem plus it is changing the water cycle and climate of various regions.
