Schindler's List is an Academy Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA and Grammy winning 1993 movie based on the book Schindler's Ark by Thomas Keneally, published in the United States as Schindler's List and subsequently re-issued in Commonwealth countries under that name as well. The movie, adapted by Steven Zaillian and directed by Steven Spielberg, relates the tale of Oskar Schindler, a Sudeten-German Catholic businessman who was instrumental in saving the lives of over one thousand Polish Jews during the Holocaust. The title refers to a list of the names of 1,100 Jews whom Schindler hired to work in his factory and kept from being sent to the concentration camps.

If Steven Spielberg is remembered for only one film, please let it be this one. Adapted from the book by Thomas Kennealy, from the memories and stories told to him by Leopold Page, it's almost four hours of very intense moviemaking. Spielberg poured his heart into this film, and it shows on every sequence in the film. It touched my heart from the moment I saw it and never before have I seen a film that even comes CLOSE to the power and heart this film represents. I consider Schindler's List to be the Best Film Ever Made. Filmed in all black and white with just a few touches of color for emphasis, it's just I don't know, harrowing, I guess is the word I'm looking for. Spielberg ends his video with real life faces of Jewish survivors and the movie humbles and engulfs you as to what inhuman treatment a people suffered at the hands of Germany. It changes you - you will feel the pain the people felt. It's almost too intense, but it is such a necessary piece of film. If you have heard about the Holocaust, that is simply not enough. For those who haven't: See this movie.

Oskar Schindler is a vain, glorious and greedy German businessman who becomes unlikely humanitarian amid the barbaric Nazi reign when he feels compelled to turn his factory into a refuge for Jews. Based on the true story of Oskar Schindler who managed to save about 1100 Jews from being gassed at the Auschwitz concentration camp. A testament for the good in all of us.

It appears to be a film about the oppression of an entire group of people ..... simply because of who they are....

HOWEVER

It can also be argued that the film works on a level beyond that...

There is enormous BRAVERY here....and STRENGTH....

and a firm belief in "right and wrong"...because as the film progresses...those within it, and those WATCHING are transformed....

not into Jews, but into people who are indeed CHOSEN.

I like to think that the story begun in "Schindler's List" is CONCLUDED in "Munich"....

the dialogue, the characters, the PLAIN TRUTH of it all...

"...it is a wonderful THING to be Jewish..."

And no evil...be it BOURNE of A SINGULAR AUSTRAIN posing as a GERMAN... or a HATEFUL WORLD will/can/shall/ ....

change that....

TRULY....

"...He who saves One....saves the World Entire, for the List...
IS LIFE...."

The film presents the indelible true story of the enigmatic Oskar Schindler, a member of the Nazi party, womanizer, and war profiteer who saved the lives of more than 1,100 Jews during the Holocaust. It is the triumph of one man who made a difference, and the drama of those who survived one of the darkest chapters in human history because of what he did.

The Shawshank Redemption. Schindlers list is actually really good too, but watch the Shawshank Redemption first.
