For years now, I find myself with lots of ideas and goals, and plenty of logical reasons to get on the ball and start executing them, but I find myself easily distracted or procrastinating. I can't seem to break this pattern even when I know it is happening. When I do finally get started on something, I'm focused and make progress for a while, but then the momentum fades quickly.

I find myself being strongly motivated at the wrong times, like when I am driving or needing to get to sleep.

I'm looking for some missing piece in my mind to give me the leverage to get over the hump to give me the fire to get cranking and continue cranking until the project is done.

I believe I have the passion and fire inside me, but it just seems to flicker. I want to find a way to turn it up full blast and put myself into action.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

You, my man, will never be able to stick to the grindstone. You are by nature a creative thinker with a million and a half great ideas. You're place in life is to lead others that don't mind mundane work and are happy to take care of your details because they lack the creativity to think on their own.

This is a tough one, and unfortunatly nobody can answer this one for you - you have to find the reason inside yourself. We can however give you some ideas. If your health by itself isn't enough - I promise you, absolutely promise you that once you get into a healthy lifestyle, excersizing regularly, eating right - you will feel like a completely different person. You will be more confident, will have more energy, you will smile more, you will look great and feel great. Once you get into it, you will be addicted to feeling this way, and won't stop. All you have to do is take the first steps. I read back in the day somewhere that it takes about 21 days for something to become habit. This may upset some people, but tough - do not be content with who you are, do not say I am beautiful and perfect just how I am... this, imo, is a huge problem in our society - we settle for less. Strive to better yourself always. You can do it, just firm yourself up and say today is the day - not tomorrow, not Monday, not "I'll start next month", or "I'll splerge this one last time cause I will start working out soon". Just do it. Good luck

What works best for me is belittling. If I'm told that I'm too weak or that I can't do X and Y, that will only motivate me to do it. So you see, in this way, enemies can be useful, too. You just need to find someone like that who can be around you all the time and annoying you till you're motivated enough.

I often feel the same way. What I do is I'll make a to do list with exact times set. I also give myself treats like going to my favorite store or getting a candy bar.

Well, here's my story for whatever it's worth: This saying has always stuck in my mind: THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH A SINGLE STEP. This thought really resonated with me, and I always begin a project with it in mind. I follow up with a pep talk to myself that includes, "You get it done by doing. So, do it now!"

Yes. I went through a rough area in my life. My therapist told me to make lists of things I need to accomplish and set time frames for each item. Say you want to start a business for example. Set a time frame for each aspect of starting a new business. For example, "By June 1st" I need to register the business with the county, "By June 30th, I need to market my business by creating pamphlets, flyers, business cards, etc.

This way, if you have a set time frame, you must do it in time.
Good luck.

I played football when I was younger. My coach was a real hard-a$$. Every time I find myself down, hurt, feeling sorry for myself, and thinking about giving up, I see his face screaming at me to "suck it up". It seems to help me.
