If youre a banana back, it means youre putting your head and shoulders enough within the water, which would straighten you out.

And this comes from your fear of the water.
You will have to embrace the water, and trust that what youre teacher is telling you will help you float.
Pay attention and do as she tells you.
Keep in mind that kids 2 years old can swim -- so that means you can too.
just trust your teacher, and do as she says.
and if you focus on that, youll be too busy to be scared of the water as you seem to be

good luck with it

Try using a snorkel and mask yes even in the pool you can concentrate on swimming and not breathing at the same time because you have the snorkel. Other than that I do not know what to reccomend except more time in the water playing and experimenting in the shallow part of the pool.

Ok. Get in the water. Hang on to the edge with your hands. Let your body float on your tummy & kick (still hang on). Just let your body float - stretch out. Kick & wiggle, kick & wiggle. After you're comfortable with that, let go, you'll still float, so paddle, you'll be on your tummy for a bit, then lift your legs like you are going to sit - go on tummy again, paddle with hands & feet - called doggie paddle. (stay in shallow end so you can put your feet down if you get nervous) You're on your way .... keep it up !! Good work!!
p.s - the water is the best exercise for anyone. Don't be afraid, it's fun !!

Whoops! I misread the question...lol...sorry...you must be laughing really hard right now ! I am ! So sorry.......
