The longest word in any major English language dictionary is pneumono­ultra­micro­scopic­silico­volcano­coniosis, a 45-letter word supposed to refer to a lung disease contracted from the inhalation of volcanic ash, but research has discovered that this word was originally intended as a hoax. It has since been used in a close approximation of its originally intended meaning, lending at least some degree of validity to its claim

If you include Chemical names the longest word is for the chemical name of titin. It is189,819 letters long. It is a protein which has 26,926 amino acids. Go to this site to find out.
(Note that the english dictionary will not use full chemical names so I think the official longest word is 45 letters long)

supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. It's a Walt Disney song from Mary Poppins. The song describes using the word to talk one's self out of difficult situations. I think it is in the dictionary, but not positive.
