It's usually the other way around. It's been proven good looking people get farther in their careers.

If you've ever watched a tv show on psychology, the research & testing on this topic indicate that it's the opposite. Good looking people get higher pay & better jobs & taller men get higher pay & better jobs. Both are more likely to be promoted. If you are applying for a job where you would be seeing the public like sales/hospitality you are far more likely to get the role if you are good looking. Recruitment agencies are the same, particularly the more upmarket ones, just look at their staff photo's on their websites, they're all really attractive & they're all thin.
I have to say it's an odd question, what job do you think you're been passed over for exactly?
Any ethical employer (the larger the company the more ethical they're likely to be as they should have an established Human Resources policy where they have to prove they are hiring people based on their experience & qualifications) will hire for legitimate reasons. They could only turn down someone on the basis that they have poor personal grooming habits or hygiene, not going by whether they're perceived as good looking or not & even if the person has a facial scar or birthmark, etc, this is irrelevant also.

No. I believe the exact opposite is true. Every study I have ever seen said the better looking and taller person, gets more job offers with higher pay.
If you are having trouble getting a job go to a professional career coach, I bet they will quickly identify a number of major flaws you need to correct.
Just by the nature of your question, I wonder if you do not have a good understanding off how the job interview process works.
I seen cases where good looking out going types way over estimate their ability to "wing-it", because that has worked for them for most other situations. And they miss the details such as preparing for the interview and practicing simple clear cut answers to basic questions. Good luck
