I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, because probably 50% of the people on here are procrastinating this minute. But the web is so addictive, and it's so easy to get surfing, link after link. Everyone's probably experienced this. And then we don't do what is most important.

How do I control myself?? I know it takes self-discipline, but how can I achieve that level of discipline? I don't want to see a therapist or anything... Please share any little tricks you have on how to limit internet time.

There might not be quick ways to overcome procrastination.

Maybe you can read books on procrastination to learn why you procrastinate and how to procrastinate less. Or maybe you can suddenly realize you are wasting too much time on the internet.

From the book I started reading--Procrastination - why you do it, what to do about it, by Jane B. Burka, Ph.D. and Lenora M. Yuen, Ph.D.

You can maybe draw yourself a schedule of the upcoming week and fill in what you ACTUALLY do (not what you plan to do). Then maybe when you add up the numbers you might be able to see how many hours you wasted on the internet. You can also add colors for the time you work on your goals (does not have to be long--even 5, 10 or 15 minutes are fine) and then add it up for the week. The number you see might make a little happy and might make you try harder the next week to spend less time on the internet.

I actually haven't tried this technique to solve my procrastination because I'm still on holidays. =P

Maybe you can also try this website:

It's for procrastination in general but it might work.
You might also want to make it hard for yourself to get internet access.

Procrastination is not good! I am one!!! I felt that waiting would not hurt anyone--- wrong! I missed out on some opportunities that could have given me a better financial future. I also messed up at work a few times because I procrastinated too long. It is very hard to change "old habits" like that... but it can be done! IF there is no "deadline" to meet, then a more leisure approach may accomplish a better end-result but do not think that ALL tasks are the same way. One needs to set a personal "deadline" on themselves! Then try to meet that deadline early--- it will take practice and persistence. Good luck

I procrastinate all the time. But if there is something that you need to do you need to stick a note on your computer screen that says no computer today I have other stuff to do. If that doesn't use your Norton or whatever virus protector you use to lockdown your computer so you can't get on the internet. Or unplug the power supply from your computer or beat yourself in the head until you get off the computer

Personally, I don't limit my internet time, I just find constructive things to do, such as learning to program. Instead of asking yourself "What can I do to get away from the computer?", try an approach such as "What can I do to get useful output out of the time I spend on the computer?".

Treat yourself like a lab rat, go to a store that sells novelties, buy a gag lighter or pen, then whenever you find yourslef goofing off, shock yourself 3 times.

Make yourself do the work and THEN let yourself surf as a reward.

Its like any other task. You can do it until its time to do something else. Scheduling is what its all about!
