I have a Presario V2000 and I love it. I like it better than my other laptop, which is a Toshiba. The Presario seems to run faster, and is a little smaller. I also prefer the keyboard, since it's a little quieter. One of my favorite features is the scroll bar on the side of the touchpad that works the same as the scroll thing on the PC two-button mouse. It's much easier to get to the bottom of a page faster. I also like the volume controls on the top rather than the side, and the function that allows me to open up my default web browser with the push of just a few buttons. I'm not sure if these features are available on every Presario, but I would definitely recommend it.

I have a Compaq Presario r4000 AMD 64 3500+ and its a great computer. In the past Compaq was horrible, but now that HP has taken them over basically your buying a HP product. Mine has worked flawlessly for 2 years, left on most days for 24hrs a day. For the money its better value than a dell and certainly better quality than eMachines or Toshiba (having used them all). You wont be dissapointed.

It depends what you define as a good computer. Everyone has different needs. For example, hardcore gamers look for computers with good audio and video cards. But for workers who may only need the computer for documents and internet would settle with a computer with an average audio and video card. So really, it's what you want in a computer that matters, rather than the brand.
Of course, it also depends on the specifications (like how much memory is added, what processors, what video and audio cards, etc.). There are good computers and bad computers of every brand, it's all in what you get.
In terms of Compaq (which is now owned by HP), I personally like it (3 of my 4 computers/laptops are either Compaq or HP). Their support is awesome and helpful, and they seem to perform well.
The most important thing is that you look for a computer that suits your needs, rather than the brand. Are you using it for games, internet, documents (spreadsheet or word processors), multimedia? I would suggest going to Best Buy and asking for what is a good computer for your needs.
Hope this helps!

Compaq is not known for high quality products. Perhaps, now that they are under HP, things may change..... but I'm not holding my breath.
I prefer laptops from SONY, Fujitsu, and Toshiba. For an "american" brand, try DELL.
My experience in the high tech industry has taught me to avoid Compaq.

I have not had many good experiences with Compaq. One guy I know refers to that line as "Pretty-Sorry-O's"

Yes. My wife and I had one and it lasted us for seven and a half years. Today, it is our grand children's and they can run most older games (ie Quake3) and high speed Internet. It is still not to old or slow to be useless.
