With this degree.. Masters you should consider working within the schools system..lower elementary is ideal.
The principals in schools today are in need of more social support such as peer mediation counseling and student liaison for conflict resolution.
Go to your local school board and inquire. Be creative!
Also, do not forget that many health care agencies (substance abuse, nursing homes and even HR jobs can use a person with a Master's in counseling)
You have to broaden you search a bit. Do not limit your skills. You will be surprised just how reliable and useful you can be to both children and adults with this degree.
Get out there.. Relocation (nah).. job travel (yeah).
Best wishes!

Have you thought of working from home? You didn't mention what your master's degree is in. My wife has a great career that she does from home. So great, in fact, that I recently quit my job so that she could spend more time at it. She works with a great company. They are BBB members, offer 401k, benefits and training. Maybe it would work well for you since your husband already has a good career and you don't want to relocate. You actually could move this business with you anywhere even if you did.

well what did you get your master's degree in and what do you want to? What is the unemployment rate in your area. Make sure you are using the career center at your university or college. Don't shy away from doing temp or contract work. At my company a lot of people start out as contractors, even for higher level positions.

If you just got your degree; give it some times. Relocating would be expensive and then you may still have trouble finding a job. Just give it some time. Things will work themselves as long as you keep hanging in there. Keep trying also.

Since you don't want to move, that leaves 3 options.
1. Be willing to commute a long distance (say 40-50 miles)
2. Take a lower paying job.
3. Just wait and see what develops. Some jobs have a low turnover and thus, you may have to just wait it out (if you can)

Tps:
-Have someone else review your resume. Include clues into your personality, not just job descriptions.
-Make sure your appearance is professional and "polished" looking. Wear a suit and make sure your hair, fingernails and shoes are in great shape.
-Practice interviewing with your husband.
-Join an organization that has opportunities for networking. Most jobs are acquired through networking than by any other means.
Hope these help!

You are not alone. My cousin got his Masters and ended-up as a bartender. LOL
It may take some time and work, but I am confident you will find something. Just hang-in there. I went to an agency that helps place professionals and they were very helpful. The company that hired me paid the fees.
Best of Luck.

Unfortunately, you have to go someplace farther or move someplace that you CAN find a job along with your husband.
My father used to drive an hour and a half just to get to work since my mom didn't want to move and had a great job herself, he had a business major. After a while it didn't seem too far away to drive there.
luisa is right, tell us your major and we could probably help.

Smart people go to college/university and study a field they enjoy or think is good for them. During the time at college/university, these smart people train their mind to do very complex thinking. However, isn't it amazing how unresourceful smart people can be after college/university. Smart people should be using their brain and talents to be resourceful. These people should get busy doing something, anything, but without attitude.
Develop yourself with your career, whatever it is. Make it to your liking, or start your own business. You are a smart person. Don't limit yourself or your ability. Remember to be happy:)

I don't know specifically about California, but there is a demand for school psychologists nationally.
