I'm going to start looking for a job soon, and I have a myspace page. I don't really have anything incriminating on there, just a few seductive pics.. nothing bad, just me looking flirty.. lol

Do people really scan future employee's myspaces?

Quite a few people are doing that these days to see what kinds of things their prospective employees are doing in their spare time.

I just applied for a job & I scanned my boss to see what he is like! I have to say he was entirely different in person than how he seemed on the website & I had a whole different picture in my head, he looked intense in his pictures & he said he played the drums & was into all these extroverted activities, but turns out he's really gentle & quiet.

I guess some employers might do this, if you're applying for a job with a large firm they will be concerned about their reputation so this may be bad for you. Certainly I've never heard of a company doing this as an official hiring policy (I work in management & have recruited many staff).

It depends on the job - if you're a law student, they might check your myspace page. A lot of other jobs don't. Still I wouldn't tell your boss about your myspace page (they don't need to know everything about you - you have a right to have privacy in your off the job life!)

Yes.More and more employers are using My Space as a tool to weed out potentially non-professional employees. It is better to be safe than sorry. I would remove anything you would not want your future boss to see.

I always search myspace and google for anyone before I hire them. This is fairly common hiring practice.

Yes. I have known my supervisor to do a Google search on applicants. She is looking for good and bad things about the prospective employee. If you would be embarrassed for him/her to see them, remove them now!

If when you say people you mean the employer than the answer is no. Unless you gave them your mysapce URL or they have the email that you used to create your account (maybe even search through your name)... other then that they cant trace it to then scan it.

Nobody can view your myspace if it's set to "Private."

i've never even heard of such a thing before this.
the answer must be 'no' (or just very rarely).
