The key here is Liberal Ideas and again ideas that were Liberal for the period of the nation's founding. The moral values championed by contemporary conservatives were probably taken for granted during our nation's founding.

Our Founding Fathers did set out to create a nation free from advocacy of any single faith. This was in direct reaction to the power of the Catholic Church throughout Europe and its complicity in sustaining the various European Monarchies. And of course the power of the Church of England had been experienced first hand by many of the earliest Americans.

All that being said, it would probably be inaccurate to believe that Judeo-Christian beliefs did not play a significant role in our nation's creation. Certainly they did and I imagine again that these were simply taken for granted as the societal norm for that time.

Today's Conservative Republican thinking is also not representative necessarily of the beliefs of our Founding Fathers. Today's Conservatives want to impose religion on every aspect of public and private life. To what eventual end, one can only wonder.

The imposition of one man's belief system upon another would have been abhorrent to many of our Founding Fathers. They set out and were for the most part successful in creating a nation, where each person can seek God out in the way of their own heart.

And of course, there will always be those for whom this is simply intolerable...

The terrorist that got down to obtain independence from England did show a formidable brake with custom, and Founding Fathers at the same time as showing an truly sensible view of ability at the same time as drawing up structure of united states , which become first attempt in heritage of mankind that human beings utilizing an open representative Democratic type of authorities tried to plot a form of self-governance. both acts were very far remote from being consecrative, and picture various the Founding Fathers might want to be proud to say they were sensible free tinkers, which sounds liberal to me, yet they were no longer huge on labels.

1. Seperation of Church and State was implimented to protect the church. If we were trying to keep God out of the Government, why does our money have "In God We Trust"? Seperation of Church and State was meant to give people the right to worship how they saw fit without persecution from the government. (ie. The Church of England)

2. Freedom from taxation?! Honey, liberals want to tax the hell out of you, so you can pay for welfare and illegal immigrants.

3. Liberal organizations like the ACLU, NAACP, GLAAD...etc, try to ban and censor our speech more than any conservative groups, all in the name of Political Correctness. Right now there is a liberal democrat trying to make it illegal for a parent to spank their child, out in California! FREEDOM? Letting the government come into our homes and tell us how to raise our children is FREEDOM?

4. It was a Republican that freed the slaves in this country...if you want to discuss "freedom". (Lincoln)

5. Right now there are two boarder guards that are in prison because they chased down and shot an illegal Mexican that was trying to distribute drugs in this country. The man didn't die and the liberal ACLU arranged to bring him back to THIS country with a full pardon to testify against the boarder guards. The illegal drug dealer is now a free man, while two citizens are in prison. God bless the bleeding hearts!

I'm not a Republican, I'm an Independent. But you're post just struck me as extra naive and ignorant.

Show me where Separation of Church and State is in the Constitution or any of those documents. You won't find it. Trust me, this country was never founded on any liberal ideas!! It was actually founded on Biblical principles, something a liberal has no clue about. That's how I put it in Con. Rep. thinking.

As far as fitting in? Judeo Christan values were an integral part of the formation of our constitution. They fit in as much in the far right as they do in the far left. Like a square peg in a round hole.

The far right and the far left have divided these "united" states to such a degree that the saying United We Stand Divided We Fall rings true and man are we falling.

The extremists have exploited are weakest link and in this and only this respect they are whipping our tail off.

Moderation can bring unity to our country once again thus allowing us to shake the world as the world shook for a brief few months post 9/11.

Old fashioned liberal ideas yes. The same ideas of free enterprise, limited government(stressed highly by our founding brethren), and solid religious values that conservative Americans embrace today. And from what i am seeing very few(if any really) in Washington D.C. have any and/or all of these qualities about them.

It doesn't.

It is all in the name. It is called doublespeak.

The "Patriot Act" could only have been authored by someone with no idea of Patriotism, and could only have been authorized by idiots or traitors to the Constitution.

Republicans say they are for "traditional American Values", but the values are traditional only for religious zealots seeking to control our every thought and action. Nothing could be further from being "traditionally American".

Iraq, Syria, Iran, and many other countries that we have on our target list are not that different from the USA that they envision.

The are, (or in Iraq's case was), traditional and conservative, they just chose the wrong religion.

It doesn't. The Tories, who wished to remain part of Britian, were the "conservatives" of the time.

They were also the ones that had everything to lose once the US became independent.

The ideas the Founding Fathers had were great, but we are still progressing towards that ideal. It's the "conservatives" that hold us back.

So our Founding Fathers wanted all conservative people to shrivel up and hide under rocks and to never be in charge of anything or to make any laws?

Bull.

Liberals are going to save this country from taxation?

Even bigger bull.

May be BUT!!! Modern(?) liberals are in no way of measuring, the same type that built this great country. And if they get in power again, they will further degenerate and pervert it like clinton did, only more so and much worse. Libs are closet communists and must be removed from office post haste!
