Trust me, you are very much still a virgin! I broke my hymen while riding a horse when I was 10, does that mean I lost my virginity to a horse saddle? Of course not! "Virginity" isn't a physical thing, it's an emotional thing. Your hymen represents "woman-hood", and when that breaks (typically during sex), you are "officially a woman", but your hymen doesn't actually have much to do with virginity itself. In a sense I suppose your virginity symbolises purity, so you haven't lost your virginity until you make the call to lose it. If you think about it, if a girl gets raped, is she still a virgin? It's hard to make that call, because it's something that she decides for herself. Another thing is that men do not have hymens, but they still have a virginity, which is an emotional thing they choose to give you. Your hymen breaking isn't everything, you still have your purity and virginity, and one day you will choose to give this emotional part of your life to your husband, who will then give you his. I hope this was reassuring

Not necessarily.

But the absence of a hymen doesn't indicate a non-virgin. Did you know, for example, that some women are born without a hymen? That certainly doesn't make that newborn baby girl a non-virgin. There are also plenty of ways to tear your hymen without intercourse.

Then there's the concept of virginity itself. It's all wrapped up in the idea of women as property and has nothing to do with women as people. And even if you tear your hymen via masturbation, it doesn't make you a non-virgin. And no, it can't grow back.

I was about to say that you lose your virginity the first time that you have vaginal intercourse, but begs the question of virginity and alternate sexual orientations.

Further there is absolutely nothing wrong and in fact there is absolutely everything right, with masturbation.

If you masturbate using a dildo or other object that penetrates the vagina yes it will most likely rupture or break the hymen. You can also break the hymen when horseback riding or playing rough sports. The hymen is a barrier that is really just a fragile piece of skin that is easily broken.

Way back in the day, a broken hymen was seen as a sign that a girl wasn't "pure" on her wedding night..

Today, though, we know that there are lots of things that girls do that can break the hymen- gymnastics, horseriding, etc. that have nothing to do with the sex act.

Regarding masturbating- the hymen doesn't have to break, but it's entirely possible...

Theoretically, it could. But statistically speaking, if you've ever played sports, ridden a horse, or had a fall at the playground when you were a kid, it's probably already torn. It's not nearly as important as people give it credit for. :)

And masturbation is a perfectly healthy thing, that will cause no damage, just in case you were wonderin' about that too. ;)

Yes, it can. it can also be broken by sports, dancing, horseback riding, and many other activities. On the other hand, some girls aren't born with one, or, a very small one.

Either way, the hymen is not an indicator of virginity.

Sure. If you stick...um... something... through it. (Your finger, or whatever.)

Hymens do not grow back. There is no reason for them in the first place. Kind of like your appendix. So there is no reason that we would have evolved with self regenerating hymens.
