I grew up in the ghetto. That says it all.

I hated the small town I grew up in while I was living there because it was in the middle of nowhere (I felt), was filled with racists and was trashy (I thought). I moved away 10 years ago and when I go back and visit my mom I actually like the place. I only see the good things about it now so it's easy to forget how much it sucked when I lived there. I live in NYC and I miss the trees, the lake, the quiet and all that nature stuff that I had growing up.

No, I grew up in Sydney Australia and I'm still here. The neighbourhood I grew up in is pretty boring. Middle class people with middle class attitudes. Amazingly, a lot of the people I went to school with are still living there. They think it's a nice place to raise children. Yuck. I live in a more happening part of town and I think I'll stay here.

My dad was in the Navy for 10 years, so I grew up all over. Even when he got out of the Navy we continued to move a lot. But I liked most of the places we lived.

I was born in Detroit, Mi which is now a dying city since the auto companies are moving out and thousands of jobs have been lost to overseas markets. When I was a kid it was a wonderful city and now it is a cesspool of filth and everything bad and I feel sad when I hear about it and the hard times it is facing.

I actually live in Illinois for a few years, East Peoria, then moved to Peoria, then just left to live in VA. moved again to MD. I didn't necessarily grow up there, but I look back and don't really like it. I was shielded from a lot of things, and the kids at the Private school, it was lutheran, they called me chopper. Saying I had attempted to chop off my reproductive organ. I'm glad I left. But sometimes I miss my friends.

Wow. You have no mercy in your heart.
I doubt seriously that everything and everyone "sucked" in the town you came from.....but it does sound like you have a serious attitude problem that needs to be dealt with, for your own peace of mind.
I'm not saying you have to like or live in that "dumb" little town in Illinois, but don't be so hard on everybody around you. Being so belittling and contemptuous is most unhealthy....eventually NO ONE ANYWHERE will be able to live up to your "high" standards.

Yes and good for you!!! You know I grew up in a shitty city in NJ and the sad thing is there are people there that have lived there all their lives. What's even sadder is when they go other places they get homesick and can't adapt. It's very very sad, but I am glad to hear that you were able to make the escape!

I love the town I grew up in. It's a growing little town in New Hampshire. Wish I could move back.
Granted, it has it's hicks/rednecks, but over all it's a good little town.

I grew up in a very large city on the border. I go back to visit but I would never live there again. I would especially not want to raise my kids there.
