Looks like everyone is panicking tonite . . . If your mom hasn't had high blood pressure previously, she is probably having a migraine headache. 140 or even 160 isn't 'really high', but it wouldn't hurt to have it checked. By a doctor, not one of those store machines. Those are useless.

Blood pressure of 140 or 160 doesn't always mean it's high.
It is a combination of the top number(systolic) and the bottom number(diastolic) that are important.
As we get older we will most generally see our numbers go up due to things like high cholesterol and stress that can raise our numbers but you have to look at the blood pressure numbers as a whole.
If she is running 140 over 80,this is an OK blood pressure BUT if she is running 140 over 110 this is not good.
The closer the numbers the worse the blood pressure.
You may be worrying about something that you do not need to worry about.
Where did she have this blood pressure taken? In a Dr's office? If there had been the concern that this was a bad blood pressure, her Dr would have taken the precautions needed be it putting her into the hospital or changing medications.
Sometimes in trying to find the right blood pressure medicine she may have to try several and in the process of doing such she may experience the symptoms you are speaking of.
Headahces and eye pain at the same time can also be because she is having problems with her sinus's and not always something as severe as some of the other people answering this question may suggest.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Calm down because neither number is too high. There are TWO numbers and the bottom number is the most important. The bottom number is the number of times the heart has to beat per minute to pump blood into your system.
High blood pressure is called the "silent killer" because most people do not have any symptoms. I doubt if your mom's head pain is due to high blood pressure.
Someone said to call the nurse phone number that is listed in every phone book and ask her. They are good, usually. They are like a call center. You call in and ask a question and they look it up in a medical digest. They will ask questions and tell you if it is important enough to go to the E.R.

You should take her to see a doctor as soon as possible. Her eye and head could be hurting because of the high blood pressure, but something must be cause it to be that high. There are tons of things that could be wrong with her, and high blood pressure is a serious problem. If the doctor's office isn't open, take her to the emergency room.

it all depends, if she just had coffee, or a cig, or has to go to the bathroom, is stressed out, these things can cause BP to be high, Also pain can make blood pressure high, so take an asprin, pee, drink water, dont smoke, sit down with feet on the floor for five minutes and relax, then re take it, if it is still high, go to the hospital and get some bp lowering meds.

Go to the hospital if she is in obvious discomfort. A blood pressure that high is not healthy. A doctor check up needs to be done.

I'd call one of those medical lines.
Usually it's listed in the phone book.
It could just be stress, but I don't want you just to listen to me.
It also could be a pressure headache although I don't know why her BP would be so high.
When I get pressure headaches from the change in weather, the back of my eyes hurt and my head pounds.
Her BP could be high from the stress of her headache, but who knows.
