People are incorrect to say that the title of princess remains so long as the family is in power. Across Europe, in the republics which used to be monarchies, the descendants of the last kings and queens are still called prince and princess. If a new republican government passed a law banning titles then this would cease to be the case. But the death of her parents does not affect the status of a younger princess. Queen Victoria's last granddaughter, the Countess of Athlone, died in the 1980s and was still called Princess.

If a princess is born a princess, she remains as such until she dies or gives up her title and rank. An example of this is Princess Patricia of Connaught who upon marriage in 1919 gave up her title and became known as Lady Patricia Ramsay.

Until more recent times, a Danish princess who married someone who was not a prince lost her title.

Yes but the oldest son becomes King, if no son then the oldest daughter becomes Queen.
Unless you live in a equal rights country. There is one in Europe where the oldest child regardless of sex inherits the throne. I can't remember the name.

She is relegated to the Tower of London, where the axeman awaits her. But I, sir Blackmule, on my swayback steed will spring into action. With great courage and bravado, I will crash the ironbound gates. Once inside, I shall draw my trusty broadsword from it's warworn scabbard and utterly smite the foul villain sending him to yon netherworld. Then will I sweep the fair damsel up into my massive arms and carry her away to safety in a faraway land henceforth unknown to the wicked queen and her minions. There, we shall live in blissful happiness until the end of our days.
