could be a combination of problems--I'm guessing that it is a automatic transmission. one problem could be a too high of idle speed or a torque converter not stalling as you come down in engine speed. If the torque converter is not disengaging fast enough it can easily be staled out by doing a quick stop. The gage part is easy to figure out------how much gas does it take to fill it once it starts acting up vs how much is the tank noted for holding.

Are you tightening your gas cap down past clicking? Some autos act up if the cap isn't tightend. Also never run your car low on gas it can suck up trash from the bottom of your tank, and has been known to affect computer things and weaken fuel pumps. My auto recently did this very thing, including making a weird noise when applying the brake. We changed the cylinoid.

The brake problem may be a vacuum leak...listen for any sucking sounds under the hood.
The gas problem, however, could be a number of things. Could be something with fuel delivery or filtration, or another vacuum leak. Strange, but it's happened on one of my cars as well. I'll need more information on the gas problem...

it is posible that the Rpm setting for idle is too low
or the fuel pump is about to quit working.
please,go to auto zone and ask them to put the OBD ll scanner.
write the codes they will tell You and bring them to this web site..
check the hose that goes from intake manifold to brake booster for leakage.
