Anything Dual Core(X2) and get AT LEAST 2 gigs of RAM - Litescribe DVD burner and a standalone Nvidia Gforce 7 series graphics card top it off with a 20" widescreen and you can do on one moniter what took two before!

There are a lot of great machines out there - ge a PC Shopper magazine and check'em out!

Or like mentioned above - a MAC and be cooler and don't play too many games!

What's a DAW? The right computer would be the one you build yourself (you can go to any big computer company and custom-order it). If you want your computer to be fast, you need 3 things: fast processor (and processor speed), HD that goes at 7200 RPM, and RAM. Intel Core 2 Duo is the newest processor out and you can adjust the gigahertz of the processor. You can choose how big you want your HDD and make sure it runs at 7200 RPM for faster action times. A lot of RAM is always a good thing to have because it lets you have a lot of programs open at a time and you won't experience a decrease in performance. If you're a hardcore gamer, get one of the higher-end graphic cards by nVidia or ATI, not the mainstream graphic cards. If you're only into gaming sometimes and don't care that much about how things look, you can get away with having a crappier graphics card (the low-end graphic cards of nVidia or ATI, or the Intel GMA 950) which would save you more money. Either way, customize online to build your own is the best way to get the right computer.

Dude, if you want a DAW, there is no question. Get a Mac. With the new iTV coming out in less than a month and the programs available for free on a mac (and the super-preemo audio programs available for extra), why do you even ask the question?

For games, get a Wii.
