So far I've uncovered that in Season 6, Fonzie gets Joanie to STOP smoking:

I have checked through the description of first 16 episodes and no mention of smoking or smoke or cigarettes. There is LOTS of detail in there (the URL above), and it mentions that the Fonz didn't wear a leather jacket until episode FOUR! (He wore a gray jacket in the first one, it says.)

I remember part of the Fonz's act being when he was about to giv Richie one of his peices of advice being to take his cigarette out of his mouth & raise his arm then drop it down & stub it out with his pointy boots so unless im imagining this image coz hes 'the fonz' i think he definatly smoked.Smoking wasnt unpopular then,they didnt know about the health issues.

Okay I have no sources and episodes as I have a life...but I believe that he never did. I seem to remember Henry Winkler talking about trying to have a pack of ciggies in his tshirt sleeve and the network saying no. That was on the reunion special (OK, you caught me ... so I have a life but its not that fab :)

I don't recall seeing him smoke. Although, I'm pretty sure he kept a pack of cigarettes rolled up in his t-shirt sleeve.

No, but he always had a cigarette in behind his ear. That was in the earlier episodes then they just dissappeared!
