You are right that the US has done a great many good things in the world. Certainly the Marshall Plan which restored Europe is about as good as it gets.
The problem for us on the world stage began after WWII, when we had this huge military machine and didn't know how to turn down the dial. We lived in fear of Communism and did a lot of things that were plain un-American as we fought to contain the spread of Communism. Right or wrong, we are living with the legacy of those actions.
And in the Middle East, we think we have some innate right to give or force others to take on own our ideas of what is the best form of government.
Simply stated our disrepect for the rights of other people's to determine their own course and to live according to their own cultural and beliefs is the very thing that brings down the most hatred upon us. And honestly, we wouldn't stand for any other nation to dictate to us...so we shouldn't be so surprised. I guess other people's aren't so different from us after all....

They are ingrates. We should just tell them to go to hell. This country was built by a smart intelligent and inventive people. It can (but seldom does) happen in other countries. America should mind it's business first, last, and always. If other countries would do what our Founding Fathers did, they would be much better off. Instead, it's who has the most guns used by the worst ones that control third world countries. That's why we must NEVER give up our guns.

If you travel around the world you will realise that many foreigners support the US. The views of these people are not as newsworthy as those who express hateful and outrageous views. Also the press in many developed countries has a left wing bias and is often critical of US policy. I think this is even true of the media in the US

Don't worry, it seems like the rest of the world hates us, but most of the people in other nations love America for it's opportunities, it's law and order (thanks to Judeo-Christian ethics, the basis of our legal system), for fairness, for our free-market economy, for most of all, our Government (based again on Christian ethics), that makes this all possible.
What you hear in the media is the ranting of leftwing/liberal foreign politicians and extremist groups, not the voices of the people. Every race and nationality is represented here in the USA; the people came here to escape from the lawlessness, poverty, lack of opportunity, and opression in their countries. It's the old age battle of Good vs. Evil, and USA represents the Good in this perpetual struggle of forces.
One proof of this: the USA is the only Superpower in the world, and unlike Evil nations with power, the USA only uses it's power to destroy evil regimes, and bring sanity and harmony between nations. If, say Iran or N. Korea was the world's only superpower, just imagine the hell the rest of the world would experience. God bless America!!!
Finally, below a list of nations that followed the USA in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The list is still growing. It just proves, most of the world, and the majority of peoples in the world are for the USA. After all, they all have friends and relatives here! http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/iraq/news/20030327-10.html

It's because we made the top. Everyone hates the top because everyone else wants to be there, too. They're jealous, and jealousy often makes people angry. Anger leads to hatred, and hatred can almost permanently scar the mind.
Icaruscatfish: I did travel the world. I saw the people, and I learned from many, many different countries. My experience tells me that more people hate us than they love us.

Jealousy and greed works. That, plus we ARE the "Great Satan" to the Middle East religions and must be elimated.
