No! Don t do it! I ve been doing this for maybe 15 years and suddenly I now have a plugged drain pipe (and other than the usual poop and tissue I ve put nothing else in the toilet). I m looking for a clog remover that may address this issue but so far no luck (it s a problem because the floss doesn t dissolve). I haven t found any help on the web. A call to a plumber and/or a rotor-rooter approach is likely next.

In the news last week....Dental floss being flushed down toilets are eventually getting to the filtration plants and clogging something, creating maintanence problems. Why don't people just throw it in the waste basket???

The toilet is made for bowel movement only!! Dental Floss is to be thrown out in the bin that you have been given by the government not the recycle bin but the other bin. I suggest buy yourself a bathroom bin i.e. made of cane, and through your dental floss and other bathroom used items in this bin, at the end of the day or end of the week, throw in the government bin to be collected on the selected day for your area.
It keeps our environment safe and your plumbing system in check
Have a great day

It should not clog your pipes, but it does take longer to flush through your drain and into the main sewer.
I have a big tree in my yard that every year I have to call a plumber to snake out my main drian due to tree roots.
Last time they did it, the snake came back with a big clump of tree roots and dental floss.
Personally there is not enough being flushed on a daily basis to cause a problem, but if you want to be safe I would throw it away instead of flushing it.

I don't know if it'll clog up the toilet, but it's not good for the sewer system because TP deteriorates and dental floss doesn't.

Why not just reach over and toss it in the trash can? You'll sleep better a night not thinking about clogged pipes.

Bad idea for any of the above reasons & especially if you have a house dedicated septic system, in other words a cesspool. Over time would definitely hinder cesspools percolation & may require having it pumped out. Never a cheap propostion.

How could it unless you use a bunch of it? Things much larger then a piece of floss go through that pipe!

Only things that break down naturally should go down the toilet, and wax coated string definately doesn't break down easily. Throw it in the trash.

If you have been doing it for years I don't think you have anything to worry about. If it is accumulating somewhere down there I am sure that you would have had a problem by now. It does deteriorate after a while.
