Sounds like the oil sending unit (sensor) is shot.
Costs about $7 at any auto parts store, and takes about 10 minutes to put on.

When you have the oil changed by professional they are suppose to flip a reset switch on the autos that have one. If it is not time for an oil change, then you may want to contact a mechanic. I would go to auto parts store, like autozone. They do a free check on cars with these types of lights. The light must be on before they can do diagnostic reading on it. Then they will let you know what needs to be done to fix the auto.

You can have good oil pressure and still be low on oil. Check your oil might be a little low. If that is not the problem change oil. If that doesnt help trade it in on a Chevy.

Check wiring to the oil sending unit, you don't want it rubbing on anything. If it rubs through it will short the circuit to ground and cause the light to come on. With the engine running unplug the oil sending unit, the light should go out. Touch the end of the wire to ground (engine block) light should come on. Repair wiring if needed.
If it checks good, replace the oil sending unit. Do not put teflon tape on the threads of the oil sending unit it will cause the switch not to function whenit should.

It could be your alternator warning you it's about to go out. For about 5 months while driving my Olds Alero, my brake, oil, and airbag lights would come on for no reason. Then one day my car died. It was the alternator.
