I think Americans are ready for a woman president. Certainly I would vote for one if I felt strongly about someone. However, I don't like Hillary Clinton (and I'm a Democrat).

There is no "America as a whole." Many Americans are still living in the dark ages.
But the last election showed that many are waking up.
The excitement about Nancy Pelosi as a woman Speaker lasted for about 48 hours. Whatever issues people have with Condi Rice, being a woman is not one of them.
So gender expectations and entitlements are melting fast.
Hillary is very smart and determined, and she wouldn't be running unless she already knew she could get the funding to mount a big campaign. The money interests are not naive; if they thought they were throwing their money away on a lost cause they wouldn't give her a nickel.
Once she actually gets the funding to confirm her front-runner status (which will happen very soon, now that she has announced her candidacy), the woman issue will disappear.
Then, whether she can win will depend not on her being a woman, but on whether she has the stuff to stick it out through a year of the nasty, energy draining and soul-destroying business of campaigining.
Al Gore couldn't do it .

I believe that America is in dire need of a great leader. Male or female, white, black, or other, doesn't matter.
Having said that, I do not believe for a minute that Hillary is, or could even be, that leader.
She is as much a part of the problem in Washington as any of the other career politicians.
Reelection and the career are much more important than the voters. Voting along party lines much more important than stating and following personal beliefs and opinions.
Until we purge the corruption from our own ranks, and anyone that has accepted corporate trips, gifts, job guarantees, etc., is by definition corrupt, we will see no sanity in our policies coming from Washington.
Until our political parties realize that the best candidate should be supported, and that "anything goes" is not a campaign policy that benefits our election system, we will continue to be forced to choose between the lesser of two evils.

She's got a great shot. There hasn't been a female president because none have ever done the things that she's dared to do. She is the most traveled first lady in history. She made trips around the world to make incredible strides in women's rights and international affairs. She had an incredible plan for nationwide health care that probably would have worked if not been shut down by congress. As a senator she has been not only working for the state of New York but for the entire country as evidenced by her actions with the Armed Services Committe. She has survived all this time in the public eye not only without breaking, but has made it work for her in a manner that can only be described as genious.
I think her male colleagues respect her enough to realize that she's the best person for the job. After they begin to speak out for her, there will hardly be a chauvinist pig in the country who would attempt to underestimate her.

When people look at her as a woman instead of just a Democratic candidate, they're voting for/against for the wrong reasons. I don't want a feminist/socialist as my president, that's why I will not vote for her.
