7.6 is too high. And they are not stable anywhere between 7 and 8. Ph level for a goldfish is 7.0. You also have to watch the ammonia levels too. Nitrates and nitrites. People underestimate goldfish. They are not as hardy and easy a fish to take care of as they are stereotyped to be. There are a lot of requirements to properly take care of goldfish. If you go to the store and look at the ph stabilizers, they are all clearly marked for the type of fish you have.

Check if the fishstore where you plan to buy the goldfish buys them from a local breeder. Seems like most do. Unless you're on well water at home or somehow on a different water supply than most locals, chances are the goldfish will be acclimated to the pH of your water already.
I'm not saying that the pH guidelines given online for fish species are useless, I'm just saying that especially with hardy fish like goldfish, it's not as important to achieve a certain pH as it is to keep a *stable* pH. It's the sudden changes that will damage your fish.
That said, goldfish prefer a fairly neutral pH. If you're between 7 and 8, that's great for them.

They can survive most Ph levels as long as they are not extreme like 9.0 or 6.0. Most important that it remains consistant through water changes. I like my water for my goldies at 6.8 to 7.2 which is basically neutral. 6.8 will keep away many disease. While alkaline water will make ammonia levels worse. Its kinda your call just keep it the same.

7-9, if you have a stable ph don't ever mess with it. sudden changes will kill the fish. Don't try those crappy store chemicals either.

7.6, but they're pretty hardy and a stable pH is more important than a proper pH.
