the urbanites in the LA Basin loved it, the farmers in the Owens Valley whose farms were decimated by the lack of water available after the aqueduct was built were livid

When water flowed to LA is was boon to the area. William Mulholand, designer and builder, created the aqueduct without any type of pumping. It was entirely a gravity fall system

The people of Los Angeles were estatic for the water, the people of the Owens Valley, where the water was being taking from were horrified to see their land dry up, crops die and the whole area become a dust bowl.

Look up Mulholland for more info-- he's the guy that developed it.
