Get some of that Oxy10. It works on all kinds of stains.
My son uses it when he details cars on the upholstery and the
carpet, and they look brand new.

It the carpet has multiple pet stains, it must have an odor as well as the heavy staining. I think you need to get it professionally cleaned and deodorized. You may not be able to remove the stains yourself, and it would be a good idea if you need to get a deposit back or to ready a home to show for rental/sales.

The best way to clean the pet stains is to have someone come and professionaly clean the carpet. They have the appropriate chemicals to remove and disinfect the stains. If you are renting you are more apt to get your security deposit back as well. They can get the carpet cleaner and looking better for the time and effort you put in to spot cleaning the carpet

Ammonia is really good for pet stains. One tbsp of ammonia in a cup of water should do the trick. Use a little elbow grease and work the stain out. Try the ammonia on a small part of the carpet first just to make sure it wont bleach the color.

For New Stains
Instructions
STEP 1: Remove any excrement and blot the entire wet area immediately and firmly with a clean, white, absorbent towel or cloth. STEP 2: Pour a small amount of liquid detergent onto the cloth or towel and rub stained area with just enough firmness to remove the stain. STEP 3: Mix together 1 quart warm water and 1/2 cup white vinegar. STEP 4: Slowly dribble the mixture onto the stain. STEP 5: Place several clean, dry, white towels over the stained area. STEP 6: Walk over the wet area several times to absorb excess moisture. STEP 7: Place books or other heavy objects over the area. STEP 8: Allow the objects to stand on the area for 4 to 6 hours. STEP 9: Remove the towels. STEP 10: Use a soft-bristled hairbrush to raise the nap of the carpet.

Tips & Warnings
While the area dries, open windows or run portable or ceiling fans for added air circulation.

STEP 9: Again dribble this mixture onto the stain or odor area. STEP 10: Blot again with a clean, dry, white towel. STEP 11: Dribble clean water onto the area. Joyce A and Gary S have the right answer. Have it professionally cleaned. The odors get down into the carpet pad also, and even if you use a good machine, you will not be able to overcome the residue odors. Good Luck.
