Who knows what a Chick-O-Stick is? http://hometown.aol.com/candycreations23/images/chic-o-sticks_small.jpg
My mare suddenly decided that these are her favorite treats, because I was eating one when I went into the pasture to spend time with her and she wanted a bite so I gave her a piece to see if she liked it and she ended up eating the whole thing. It has peanut butter, coconut, and some other stuff, and it's cooked to be really crunchy. I was just wondering if these would be okay to give her, (she is pregnant and has been craving some really weird stuff lately) because she does like them soooo much. I was also wondering who else has horses that like unusual snacks beside the common apple, carrot, sugar cube, and pepper mint. (one of my ponies love subway sandwiches, but don't worry, I take out the meat before I give it to him)

I've known lots of horses who love Chick-O-Stik and they all were fine.

BUT I'd be hesitant to give this to her during her pregnancy. If she were to have anything upset her stomach and she coliced that'd ruin her pregnancy and I know you don't want that to happen!

Talk to your vet. Ask your vet what treats are acceptable during pregnancy. Ask your vet how many chick-o-stiks are ok (if any) and go by the vet's prescribed diet during pregancy!!

Also- I wouldn't encourage feeding the pony Subway sandwhiches. Horses should NEVER be fed bleached wheat gluton products!! (Which is in the bread!) Also Mayonaise is dairy and horses should NEVER have dairy!

My horse loves wierd treats, too. He LOVES pears and butterscotch candies. He'll happily give up carrots and apples and such for butterscotch and pears!

I wouldn't worry, these are safe for your horse. I would not recommend giving them to your pregnant mare. She's most likely craving those cause they are supplying her with something she's missing from her diet. I would recommend a more horse friendly treat like whinnies cookies which taste very similar to chick o' sticks. Also I would consult with your vet to make sure your mare isn't a specialty feed horse for pregnancies. I've seen so many people, including myself, that has had a horse on a mare and foal care feed and the horse still lacking something in her diet. Our horses looked great during the pregnancy but after giving birth their body depleted and the vet said it was because she wasn't getting enough nutrients during the pregnancy.

No clue what they are but..... truthfully- my horse loves hamburgers from Mc Donalds- she eats the bun, burger and all. No, I didn't feed it to her- she snatched it out of my hand the first time and ate about a 1/4 of a burger. She also loves vanilla ice cream. Hates pepperments and hates too sweet of stuff. She doesn't even like apples or carrots all that much. All she will eat regularly, treatwise, is plain grain flavored biscuits (luckily the cheap kinds)

My 5 year old arab likes to eat dumbdumb lollypops, and can also eat candy necklaces with out eating the string! Her favorite treat is jelly beans, and she loves to drink gatorade, and has even had coke. I'm sure the Chick O Stick is fine for your horse. As long as your horse has no allergic reactions to anything these are fine for her to eat. Congrags on the upcoming baby!

horses like many different foods that we eat if they have been exposed to it they will eat it my draft loved those Quaker granola bars....go figure, there has been numerous times if i left something on the seat of my truck and i wasn't paying attention he would stick his head in and snag it my moms horse loves beer the mustangs that are on our ranch do not take food of any kind whether its horse treats or carrots, sugar cubes and apples they have not been exposed to it enough to know its yummy but like all treats it should come in moderation and check with your vet to see what can be potentially dangerous to her and her unborn

I called my horse Reagan because he liked jelly beans so much. Chick o Sticks will not harm her. Because they are mostly sugar.
